"THE REAL DIRT"
Welcome to our newsletter. Things were so hetic in August that once again, I did not get a chance to even update our newsletter.
The most important thing happening around our office is getting ready for the Pond Boss Conference III at Big Cedar Lodge near Branson, Missouri. All the vendor tables are full and we are expecting quite a crowd this year. Not only is the scenery up there beautiful but the rooms are beyond belief. There will be a fishing tournament, a "hands on" pond trip, panel discussions and most important to us, Mike's speech on "Amenities Around the Pond". There is still time to come, so be sure and register. You don't want to miss this! (Use our link or go to www.pondbosss.com and sign up).
The weather here has been mostly dry and humid, what a surprise for North Texas in August. I know all of us are looking forward to any cool front that wants to make it way to Texas.
We have continued working on our projects, done some renovations and many consultations, so read on and see what we have been up to.
MIKE'S ADVENTURES...SO FAR ANYWAY
We are continuing to work projects from Texas to Oklahoma. We have found our equipment and crew spread out from Tishimingo, OK to Paris, TX to Abilene, TX.
We almost finished with the clearing and burning on the Oklahoma project but had a lot of rain delays. Then after a few days of no rain, we would have a "burn ban" in effect. It has been slow going but the crew is making progress and this project promises to be an absolutely wonderful recreational lake when we are finished. I have posted a new picture of the burning, so check it out.
The Paris, TX project has been finished with new roads, gravel delivered and spread on the roads and a damaged dam pipe repaired. That is one piece of equipment that can move on to the next job.
Lupe and Mike have made many visits to a site near Abilene, TX. They are doing clearing and test holes. This is a great site and we met the gentlemen that owns the property at the 2008 Pond Boss Conference. He shared a book with us that tells the history of the site. It was really something to have all that history on the land and will help us out when we start excavating. If you get a chance, check out "Nubbins Ridge" at your local library and read about the early days of West Texas land owners.
Mike has also been busy with consultations. He has visited with folks from McAllen, TX, Haslett, TX, Childress, TX, Mt. Springs, TX, Bartonville, TX, Chickasha, OK, Comanche, TX and of course all around the Weatherford and Abilene, TX area. Mike takes lots of pictures on his consults and we try to post as many as we can on the web site. Leaky lakes are so many of our calls and there are as many ways to fix the problem as the leaks themselves. Mike always writes a report when he returns from a consultation that includes his impressions, findings and suggestions. We try to put as much information as the land owner needs to consider all the options and make the best decision for them on how to repair any leaks.
OUR E-MAILBAG
We received and answered many emails. "Thank you" to everyone who contacted us. We have added a forum to our web site, "Dirt & Water HQ Forum". Please sign up and participate on this new forum with questions for Mike about anything concerning recreational ponds and lakes. Mike tries to spend time each day on the pond boss web site forum, "Ask The Boss" so be sure check it out. On either forum Mike has answers to many common questions.
ETC...
Mike took his son, Joe back to college late last month. Joe is going to school in Mississippi again and we know that he will do his parents proud as always. Mike's daughter, Christina, has become a house flipper. She is now flipping her second home and doing a great job. On top of all that she works as a supervisor at a local aircraft supplier and certainly works more than 40 hours a week. Wonder where she got that from! Also congratulations to Mike and his wife, Jane on their 29th wedding anniversary last month.

Boat dock at Dr. Phillips & family site.
This place has been made a paradise by Dr. Phillips and his wife, Angie with lots of hard work.
Test holes dug near Abilene as Mike looks for best material and pond site.
Mike loves to take pictures and these late bloomers are proof that he is getting better at it all the time.
Humans are not the only ones who benefit from a water site. Don't they look glad to see us?
